Dear Chelsea Elementary School Parents,

I hope you are all well. The end of the school year is quickly approaching and both on and off site classes will be wrapping up by June 23^rd. This will be the last update for the year.

Individual Education Plans
Parents of students with Individual Education Plans will be receiving draft versions of the 2020-2021 IEP shortly. Typically staff meet with parents to review the document/recommendations, however this year we have adapted the process to be completed digitally. Included with the IEP, parents will receive instruction on how to provide input/feedback or consent to the IEP as presented. Please read all this information carefully. IEPs for the current school year will be evaluated and will be made available to parents with the report cards.

Report Cards
Notification will be sent to all parents by JULY 10^th regarding the release of final report cards through The Parent Portal.

Outdoor Learning
Get outside to explore trees with this week’s hands-on activity from Mr. E! The 10 Tree Challenge provides an opportunity to learn more about native trees and how to identify trees using their leaves.

Grade 6 Graduation
The LIVE viewing of Grade 6 Graduation will be June 25^th at 11:00 am for our graduates and their families. As a staff we are so proud of the grade 6 cohort who have shown leadership throughout their senior years at Chelsea Elementary. While COVID has changed the format of their graduation it is still a time to reflect on their elementary years and to look forward to their upcoming high school adventure with confidence. A huge thank you to the Grad planning committee and supporters for their hard work for this year’s Grad: Devon Gable, Mr. Francesco, Ms. Debbie, Mr. Dave, Ms. Anna, Catherine and David Parker, Diz Glithero, Andrea Grignon, and Jamie Pistilli.

WQSB Anti-Black Racism Statement

In the last update, I shared resources to support parents/teachers in addressing racism and discrimination. On June 10, the WQSB released a statement on Anti-Black Racism that can be found by following the link: https://westernquebec.ca/statement-on-anti-black-racism/. There are additional resources available with the statement.

2020-2021 School Year
The Minister of Education announced today the mandatory, full time return to school for elementary students for the 2020-2021 school year. Please see the attached letter from Mike Dubeau, Director General and Ruth Ahern, Assistant Director General of the WQSB for further information. Chelsea Elementary will be ready to implement the parameters outlined by the Ministry of Education as well as Public Health as we welcome our students back in August 2020. I have attached next year’s school calendar as well as the school supply lists by grade.

Technology Return
A friendly reminder to the parents of students who were provided with technology for at home learning (laptop, iPad, LTE stick); these items are due back to the school on June 25th. Please contact the school to arrange drop-off.

Each year the school recognizes a parent for their exceptional volunteer work and dedication to the school community. This year’s recipient for the Outstanding Volunteer Award is Tracy Mui. Tracy is president of the Home and School Association and gives countless hours to plan and organize school events and raise funds to support various school-wide initiatives. Tracy will receive a plaque to acknowledge her generous work; thank you and congratulations, Tracy!
